Lewis Carroll was the pen name of Charles Dodgson, born in Cheshire in 1832, later the family moved to North Yorkshire. He was educated at Richmond and Rugby Schools and Christ Church, Oxford. Beside his famous Alice books he wrote poetry and was a pioneering photographer. He died in Guildford in 1898. The postcards illustrate Carroll’s life spent mainly in Oxford and the two famous novels in which Alice enters a vivid imagined world.
